The Civic Society was formed in 1966 to stimulate public interest in caring for the beauty, character and history of Cirencester, not unlike today.
This was achieved by hosting lectures and meetings, initially in the Kingshead Hotel, later moving to the Bingham House library.

A logo was adopted as shown using the Palladium styled windows of the now Lloyds bank on Castle Street. The building was the site of the first bank in the town, then known as Pitt, Bowly and Croome.
Below are members of the society in 2006 celebrating 40 years including the then Chair Martin Read, second right.

The Society will be celebrating its 60th year duiring 2026.
