Civic Pride Grants

The Civic Society awards Civic Pride Grants of UP TO £500 that aim to support and celebrate a diverse range of community activities, initiatives, and events that benefit the residents of Cirencester. If you are a member of a community group, charity or a not-for-profit organisation and you have a project that celebrates or improves our town PLEASE TALK TO US about your plans. Our chair will be happy to discuss our grant awards, criteria and answer any further questions you may have.

Applicants MUST BE ABLE to match the grant applied, for so if the Civic Society award is £500 this must be matched with £500 by the applicant. You may be asked to provide evidence of match funding

The decision regarding any award will be made by the trustees of the Cirencester Civic Society using the following terms:

  • The decision of the trustees is final, unsuccessful applicants will be informed of the reasons why but can re-apply the following year.
  • The society reserves the right to limit the number of awards in any financial year and will defer a decision to the following year if requested.
  • The work must NOT have started and MUST have any relevant permission before the award is paid.
  • The trustees reserve the right to show the use of the grant money on their social media, Civic Society website and any other society promotional material.
  • The trustees reserve the right to ask for proof of grant expenditure
  • Where possible the applicant should acknowledge the grant awarded by the civic society

St. John Baptists Church Walkway

The Church Walkway

The Civic Society have contributed to the substantial cost of repairing and improving the medieval walkway between the Market Place and the rear of the Parish Church. Members of the society, John Tiffney and Meg Blumsom, have both been hugely instrumental in the management and completion of this work and a ceremony was recently held to officially open the area and thank all those involved.

Cirencester Cricket Club

The Civic Society donated towards the repainting of the Victorian Cricket Club railings, below is a match from 1904 showing the clubhouse they surround.

Stratton Street Tree

Cirencester Civic Society donated towards the cost of the planting of a beautiful crab apple tree on the corner of Vaisey Way in Stratton. Replacing lost street trees is important for wildlife, climate change, urban shade, wellbeing and civic pride.

Celebration of Hands

As part of the £2.8 million renovation of the Brewery Arts building, the Civic Society contributed towards ‘A Celebration of Hands’ a craving created by local artist Rory Young now proudly sitting on the exterior wall. The design represents the local craftworkers of the town, unified with a piece of tied cloth depicting our historical connection with the woollen industry.
