Welcome to FEBRUARY news
The next Civic Society Social takes place on Wednesday 18th March when members are invited to a money-can’t buy ‘behind the scenes’ experience at the BARN theatre. Tickets are selling fast but we may just have a couple spare for new members. Click HERE to join or contact Lynne, our membership secretary: membership@cirencestercivicsociety.org.uk
Our next TALK at the Baptist Church on Monday 16th February will be given by Dr Simon Draper who is County Editor for the Gloucestershire Victoria County History (VCH), a long-running academic project which is conducting detailed historical research into Cirencester and the surrounding parishes. The talk will focus on the period from the end of Roman rule in 410 to the Dissolution of Cirencester Abbey in 1539, examining how and why Roman Corinium came to be replaced by Medieval Cirencester.
The aim of Cirencester Civic Society is to promote, protect and help shape our fantastic town and a great example of our civic pride is the strength of our community, built on the immense voluntary effort of so many of our residents. We want to honour these and say “thank you” so I am very pleased to report that we will be one of the sponsors of the Cirencester Community Awards taking place on Monday 27th April. Find out more on www.CirencesterRadio.co.uk Nomination forms are available from Cirencester Town Council or via the Cirencester Radio website.
We can’t believe it’s almost one year since we launched the new Cirencester Civic Society website – amazing! Although we think it is fabulous, we would really like to hear your comments too so we would be very grateful if you could take a look and let us know if you find it welcoming, easy to use and full of information about the Society. Are there ways we could make it better? It is really encouraging to see that more people are using it for things like booking WALKS with Town Guides and finding out about our monthly TALKS. Christina, our trustee who looks after our communications, has been working really hard to post news on Facebook and Instagram and this is also helping to direct people to our website. So, do please, let us know if you use social media and you see our posts.
Looking forward to hearing from you and seeing you at our next TALK.
With kind regards from
With all good wishes from
